Press release

Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present Tales of Night Cracks, a new body of work by Argentina-based artist Francisco Diaz Scotto. The artist references local flora in his paintings, which he finds growing in the cracks of sidewalks, building facades and his neighborhood. Diaz Scotto believes these imperfections are a reflection of the human desire to control space for rational use. By focusing on the flora thriving in these spaces, the artist questions modern societal methods and perceptions.

“Amidst cracks and pits, fractured sidewalks, and forsaken secrets, accidental vegetation sprouts and blooms.

Breaking through the concrete, these species blossomed in stark contrast. As night sets in, they stand there, bearing witness and casting light on every step forward and misstep.

A nighttime portrait collection of urban flora and herbs.”
