Angela Fang Zirbes
Angela Fang Zirbes is a painter based in New York and Iowa. Her paintings recall
personal experiences of isolation growing up as a young biracial woman in the
American Midwest. She captures the familiar yet haunting interiors of an old rural
house, reminiscent of the spaces from her childhood. Within these domestic scenes,
she carefully decorates the rooms with fragile objects and sentimental artifacts of a
disordered personal history. The unsettling spaces and entities in her work blend the
uncanniness of dreams with the softness of home. Fang Zirbes lingers in these
liminal rooms, seeking to connect with her cultural identity, unpack her dreams, and
understand childhood memories.
Angela Fang Zirbes (b. 2000) was born and raised in Iowa and received her BFA in
Illustration from Parsons School of Design in May 2023.
