Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to announce our participation in Zona Maco. This will be the first time the gallery exhibits in Mexico City. Our booth will feature new and recent works by Dan Lam, Hilda Palafox, Anna Valdez and Emilio Villalba.
Dan Lam is an American sculptor of Vietnamese ancestry, best known for her "drippy" sculptures and use of vibrant color. Using non-traditional materials of polyurethane foam, acrylic paint and epoxy resin, her finished work often dangles over shelf ledges, contrasting emotions of desire and disgust. Lam lives and works in Dallas, TX.
Hilda Palafox explores shape and color through her elegant, commanding figures. Working with an earth toned palette, each piece is filled with symbolism and recurring elements such as florals and natural landscapes. The legacies of art icons such as Frida Kahlo, José Guadalupe Posada, and Nahui Olin have informed her contemporary interpretations of Mexican mythology and folklore. Palafox was born and is currently based in Mexico City.
Anna Valdez is a multi-disciplinary artist who examines the relationship between objects, cultural formation, and collective consciousness. Creating epic tableaux in her studio, Valdez moves seamlessly between still life and landscape painting, collecting objects and making new ones, and cultivation, observation and fictionalization. Valdez lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Emilio Villalba is a Mexican-American painter living in San Francisco. He made a career in Los Angeles as a visual effects artist where he animated television commercial and films. After 2 years in the industry, he left for San Francisco to study fine art. Villalba is now focused on exploring painting figuratively, pulling inspiration from both old masters and contemporary artists, from Velázquez to Alice Neel to Basquiat.
